Fig brigands
Last night there were figs everywhere. This morning there was one, undoubtedly overlooked for some reason, because all others had vanished. Foxes? Opossums? Raccoons?

What's worse - having them, then losing them - or having a late freeze so none developed on the tree? I'm sorry you lost them!
It would be terrible to see no fruits at all. No matter what the weather, this tree has always borne figs. From time to time a limb dies off. I suppose this is something that can be started again from a cutting. This is the common fig seen in older yards: green and firm.
Maybe once our tree is established it can tolerate the temperature swings, but the branch tips swelled with buds right before it froze up in NW Austin, and the branches died back half their length. It's regrown leaves and new tips, but no fig buds this year.
